Future Concept I

Future Concept of RWTH Aachen University 2020: Meeting Global Challenges


Goal of RWTH Aachen University is contributing to the establishment of university cutting-edge research in Germany and participating in the global competition of the universities. To reach this, RWTH Aachen University will make full use of its scientific potential and meet complex future challenges with integrally-oriented research strategies. Especially research topics with high societal and global relevance as well as interdisciplinary and international cooperation will in future be in focus of university-intern funding and support. On a long-term basis, RWTH Aachen University strives for sharpening and strengthening its scientific profile as an integrated, interdisciplinary and international university through a thorough changing process. For this, all branches of the university will sharpen their scientific profile in regard to the engineering and natural scientific main focuses of RWTH Aachen University. For coping with the profound and complex processes of the re-orientation and re-focusing, four specific measures were elaborated within the framework of the future concept in order to remove still present deficits and to cultivate existing strengths.

 

Future Concept II

As of 2012, a revised version will complete what was successfully initiated by the first Institutional Strategy in 2007. The achievements of the first funding period of the Excellence Initiative will provide the foundation on which RWTH Aachen’s transformation to an Integrated Interdisciplinary University of Technology will be built. To reach this goal, four measures were defined within the scope of the Institutional Strategy II.
