Excellence Cluster
Excellence cluster for promoting cutting-edge research. The goal of excellence clusters is the connection of competitive research facilities. Besides improving the educational requirements and career conditions of young academics, the research profile shall be sharpened and the innovation ability shall be strengthened. The international expert panel appointed by the Joint Science Conference of the Federal and State Governments (GWK) has approved three funding proposals for Clusters of Excellence submitted by RWTH, one of which has been jointly developed and submitted with the University of Cologne and the University of Bonn. The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering is significantly involved in two of excellence clusters established at RWTH Aachen University. Starting 2019, the "Tailor-Made Fuels from Biomass – TMFB" Cluster of Excellence has transitioned into the "The Fuel Science Center" Cluster of Excellence. The work that has been accomplished in the Cluster of Excellence "Integrative Production Technology for High-Wage Countries" since its inception in 2006 is being continued in the Cluster of Excellence "Internet of Production" (IoP), which has started January 1, 2019.
