FAQ Honorary Doctorate
Who can be awarded an honorary doctorate?
An honorary doctorate can be awarded to persons who have excellent personal, scientific, technical or artistic achievements in a field cultivated by the university and whose actions have a high social significance. They may not be members or relatives of RWTH Aachen University.
Who may apply for an honorary doctorate?
All groups of the university, the faculties and the rectorate are authorized to apply.
Which documents do I have to submit to the dean's office?
In the further processing, an official letter of application, which includes a detailed statement of reasons and the naming of approximately 3 supporters (profs. of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering), as well as a nomination for two external reviewers and five professorial commission members, must also be submitted. As soon as these documents are required, the Dean's Office will contact the applicant.
Who may act as a reviewer?
In the procedure, two external reports will be obtained from professors of other universities who are familiar with the topic.
