Research Focus
The Chair of Medical Engineering (mediTEC) is especially engaged in basic research issues as well as application oriented aspects of computer assisted and model driven therapy systems engineering. Our work is based on a long-lasting successful partnership between clinicians and engineers. Of our actual projects in the domain of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery, Neurosurgery, General Endoscopic Surgery, Cardiology, Interventional Radiology, Maxillofacial Surgery, Dental Therapy and Rehabilitation Engineering 70-80% are financed by third party funding. The projects range from requirement analysis and basic research, feasibility studies (proof of concept) and system development to usability analysis and clinical field tests in close cooperation with our clinical and industrial partners.
Main topics of our research are:
- image and information processing for model guided therapy
- biomechanical modelling and simulation
- surgical navigation and robotics
- sensorintegrated "smart" instruments
- ultrasound and shock wave technology
- ergonomics and risk management
