TM - Technology for Medicine

Topic

Translation of biohybrid systems through the structural interaction of doctors, natural scientists, and engineers

Research activities are already underway in two key research areas: "Biohybrid Lung Assist Systems" and "Research Platform Aachen for Animal Experimental Methods - ForsATeM“

Bioartificial lungs, diagnostics and research in small animal models, biohybrid systems

Research Goals

The aim is to promote interdisciplinary research between the Faculty of Medicine; the engineering faculties; and the Faculty of Mathematics, Computer Science, and Natural Sciences in the field "Technologies for Medical Applications."

Existing Infrastructure

The institutes involved contributed to the infrastructure of I³TM; a research facility dedicated to these research topics has been approved and is currently being planned.

Projects

The I³TM Seed Fund Program funds projects that seek to develop highly innovative research ideas that promise to deliver scientific results of strong future relevance. The start-up funding is for a period of six to twelve months.

The I³TM Rotational Positions set out to strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration and national and international networking, by offering researchers the possibility to either work in a host institution and learn new techniques or to work in Aachen and establish new techniques here.

  • 32 interdisciplinary Seed Fund Projects funded since 11/2012 (all ended)
  • 7 Rotational Positions funding (completed funding)
